You Don’t have to Overthink it.
First of all… relax. One of the biggest misconceptions about colon hydrotherapy is that you’ll be stuck on the toilet all day afterward or that you need to prepare perfectly beforehand.
That’s usually not the case at all. Most clients leave their session feeling lighter, more relaxed, and able to go right back to their normal day.
You don’t have to overthink it.
Come comfortable, hydrated, and relaxed.
You Don’t Have To Prepare Perfectly
Preparing for your colon hydrotherapy session does not have to feel stressful. The goal is to come in comfortable, hydrated, and relaxed.
No Need To Fast All Day
You do not need to stop eating the whole day before your appointment. Light foods and liquids are completely fine.
Come Comfortable
Wear comfortable clothing and come relaxed. You do not need to bring anything special unless instructed otherwise.
Stay Hydrated
Drinking water before your appointment can support softer stool, easier elimination, better flow, and a more comfortable session.
Avoid A Large Meal 2 Hours Before Your Session
You do not need to fast all day. We just don’t want you coming in with a super full stomach from a giant heavy meal.
Your body will generally feel more comfortable during the session if digestion isn’t heavily competing for energy and space.
You can absolutely have:
Smoothies
Juice
Fruit
Soup
Light snacks
Liquids

What To Wear
Wear comfortable clothing and come relaxed. You do not need to bring anything special unless instructed otherwise.

Hydration Matters
Try to drink water before your appointment. Hydration supports softer stool, easier elimination, better flow, and more comfortable sessions.

Support Your Body
Many people ask what they do before they prepare and the truth is - what you should have been doing all along - eating a diverse diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables and staying well hydrated.

You Can Usually Go Right Back To Your Day
Most clients are able to continue their day normally after a colon hydrotherapy session.
- Go back to work
- Run errands
- Go home normally
- Continue their day as usual
You will not typically be “stuck on the toilet all day.” This is one of the biggest myths about colon hydrotherapy.
What Should You Eat Afterward?
Honestly? Aftercare is basically what you should have been doing this entire time anyway.
The Poop Doctor recommends eating according to the “Cleanse or Clog?” philosophy by choosing hydrating, mineral-rich, fiber-rich, and easy-to-digest meals.
Great post-session foods include:
- Soups
- Smoothies
- Fruit
- Cooked vegetables
- Broths
- Hydrating meals

Support The Reset, Don’t Clog Things Back Up
Your body just had a chance to hydrate, release, and reset a bit. Try to support that process with better choices afterward.
Foods To Enjoy
- Hydrating foods
- Mineral-rich foods
- Fiber-rich foods
- Easy-to-digest meals
- Broths and soups
Foods To Avoid
- Heavy fried foods
- Super greasy meals
- Ultra processed foods
- Excessive junk food
Is It Normal To Not Poop Right Away After?
Yes. Everybody’s bowel patterns are different. A colon hydrotherapy session does not force your body into one exact reaction.
Some people notice different reactions after a session.
A bowel movement later the same day
Increased elimination over the next day or two
Immediate relief
Delayed bowel movements for 1–2 days
All of these can be normal.
Consistency Helps With Chronic Constipation Patterns
One session can be incredibly helpful, but deeper chronic constipation patterns usually require consistency, hydration, dietary changes, nervous system support, mineral support, and repeat cleansing sessions.
Recommended Session Frequency
For people dealing with chronic constipation or long-term buildup, The Poop Doctor often recommends:
2–3 sessions per week for 2–3 weeks
Think: “Hydrate and loosen” instead of “blast everything out at once.”
01
Hydrate
Help hydrate and soften stool.
02
Loosen
Support the soaking of hardened material.
03
Stimulate
Encourage movement and elimination.
04
Build Consistency
Gradually work deeper into stagnation over time.

2-Week CleanStart® Cleanse
Many clients like combining colon hydrotherapy with herbs, dietary changes, increased hydration, infrared sauna, movement, and cleansing support.
One of the most popular options is the 2-Week CleanStart® Cleanse. This is commonly used by clients wanting additional support while working on:
- Constipation
- Sluggish digestion
- Bloating
- Lifestyle resets
- Cleaner eating habits
Do You Need Probiotics After Colon Hydrotherapy?
Not necessarily. The Poop Doctor’s philosophy is that every time you eat, bacteria naturally grow again.
Your microbiome is constantly changing and adapting based on food, environment, stress, hydration, and lifestyle.
For most people eating normally, probiotics are not always necessary after colon hydrotherapy.
When probiotics may be recommended:
- During prolonged fasting
- During aggressive cleansing
- After antibiotics
- For people with major digestive imbalance patterns

The Poop Doctor’s Favorite Probiotic
One favorite recommendation is Nature's Sunshine Eleven Elevated®.
Why?
- 11 probiotic strains
- Enteric-coated delivery
- pH-triggered capsules designed to help more probiotics survive stomach acid and reach the intestines
A good general rule: look for at least 9 different strains. If you’ve tried probiotics before and didn’t notice much improvement, it may simply have been a low-quality product or poor delivery system.
This Is About Supporting Your Body
Colon hydrotherapy works best when paired with hydration, nourishing foods, movement, stress reduction, consistency, and listening to your body.
Not Punishment
This is not about extremes, pressure, or forcing your body.
Not Perfection
You do not have to prepare perfectly to benefit from your session.
Support Elimination
It’s about creating an environment where the body can finally do what it’s been trying to do all along: eliminate properly.
If you’re nervous, have questions, or want guidance on how to prepare, contact The Root Chakra Holistic Health Center before your appointment.
We’re happy to help walk you through the process.
