Stop Normalizing Feeling Backed Up.
Open-system colon hydrotherapy in South San Jose designed to help people feel lighter, less bloated, more regular, and more connected to their body naturally.
What Is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle, water-based cleansing session designed to support the body’s natural elimination process. Warm filtered water slowly flows through the colon while the body naturally releases trapped stool, gas, and waste buildup.
This is not the scary, painful, invasive experience most people imagine. The goal is to help you feel lighter, calmer, clearer, less pressured, and more comfortable in your body again.
That was WAY easier than I expected.

Colonics vs. Colon Hydrotherapy — What’s the Difference?
Short answer? Most people use the terms interchangeably. “Colonics” and “colon hydrotherapy” are both commonly used to describe gently cleansing the colon using warm filtered water.
Closed-System Colonics
Traditionally, “colonic” referred to a closed-system machine, where a therapist controls the water flow and waste exits through a hose system.
Open-System Colon Hydrotherapy
Colon hydrotherapy more accurately refers to an open-system setup, where warm filtered water gently enters the colon while the client releases naturally and privately into a specialized basin built into the table.
No matter what you call it, the goal is the same: support healthy elimination, help you feel lighter, and reconnect with your body.

Frequently Asked Questions
Still wondering if this hurts, feels private, or is right for you? These answers help first-time clients feel more confident before booking.
Does colon hydrotherapy hurt?
Most people are surprised by how comfortable the open system actually feels. Mild cramping or pressure can happen as trapped gas or stool releases, but the process itself is generally gentle.
Is the open system private?
Yes. The open system is designed to feel much more private and natural compared to traditional closed systems.
How long is a session?
Sessions typically last about one hour.
How often should I come?
The ideal frequency depends on your health goals, symptoms, and how long you've been struggling with digestive issues. In general, keeping sessions closer together tends to produce the best results. As the colon becomes more hydrated and relaxed over multiple sessions, older retained stool may become easier to release.
In The Poop Doctor's clinical experience, many clients notice the greatest improvements when they begin with 2–3 sessions per week for 2–3 weeks, combined with appropriate dietary and lifestyle changes and, when recommended, targeted herbs or supplements. This approach often helps clients regain a greater sense of digestive normalcy before transitioning to a maintenance schedule that fits their individual needs.
Every person is different, so your recommendations will be tailored to your body, symptoms, and goals.
Will I lose my good bacteria?
Colon hydrotherapy isn’t selective in its removal of bacteria, but any time we are eating, removing bad bacteria allows good bacteria to repopulate.
Can I do this at home?
On average, you are going through about 20gal of water during a professional colon hydrotherapy session - this is very hard to recreate at home. Home enemas can be very beneficial in keeping the colon hydrated and active between sessions. Check out The Poop Doctor favorite high quality home enema kits.
What should I do before my session?
Try to hydrate well, eat lighter meals beforehand, and avoid arriving overly full.
What should I expect after?
Many clients report feeling lighter, flatter, calmer, more relaxed, and more comfortable after their session.
Can colon hydrotherapy help before a colonoscopy?
There have been many studies looking at colon hydrotherapy being used as preparation for colonoscopies. In general, patients report a much more comfortable experience and technicians report a successful colonoscopy. As we cannot make any claims or guarantees that the colon will be clear for the colonoscopy, it’s not something we can officially recommend. For this reason, many clients use colon hydrotherapy in supplement to the colonoscopy prep recommended by their doctor. That being said, we have seen great success with clients who chose to opt out of the recommended prep and instead use CleanStart over a period of two weeks, with about 3 colon hydrotherapy sessions per week (6 sessions over 2 weeks).
