For anyone struggling with constipation, sluggish digestion, dehydration, or an irritated digestive tract, sea moss can be an incredible addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Why The Poop Doctor Loves Sea Moss
As a colon hydrotherapist, I spend every day helping people overcome constipation and improve their digestive health. One thing I see over and over again is that the digestive tract simply isn't functioning the way it should.
Often, the intestines are:
- Dry
- Inflamed
- Lacking healthy lubrication
- Missing important minerals needed for proper muscle function
Sea moss helps support all of these.

How Sea Moss Supports Your Gut
Supports Healthy Intestinal Lubrication
Sea moss naturally contains mucilage, a slippery, gel-like soluble fiber that coats the digestive tract.

Think of it like adding a little extra "slip" to your intestines.
While it's certainly not a laxative, this natural lubrication may help stool move through the colon more comfortably and support regular bowel movements.
For people whose stools feel dry, hard, or difficult to pass, this extra moisture can make a noticeable difference.
Naturally Soothing & Cooling
Many traditional healing systems have long viewed sea moss as a cooling food.

If your digestive tract feels irritated or inflamed, sea moss provides a soothing, gentle texture that can be calming to the lining of the digestive system.
Its naturally occurring polysaccharides also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that continue to be studied for their role in supporting overall gut health.
Rich in Essential Minerals
Healthy bowel movements aren't just about fiber.

Your digestive muscles, including the muscles that move stool through your colon, depend on adequate minerals to function properly.
Sea moss naturally provides a wide variety of minerals, including:
- Magnesium
- Potassium
- Calcium
- Iodine
- Zinc
- Iron
- Selenium
- Copper
Magnesium is particularly important because it helps relax smooth muscle throughout the digestive tract while also drawing water into the stool, helping support softer, easier-to-pass bowel movements.
Many people simply don't consume enough magnesium in their diets.
Supports the Gut-Brain Connection
Digestion isn't just about your intestines. It's also about your nervous system.

Stress activates the "fight-or-flight" response, which often slows digestion and contributes to constipation.
The magnesium and trace minerals naturally found in sea moss help support normal nerve and muscle function, making sea moss one of my favorite foods for supporting the gut-brain connection as part of an overall digestive wellness routine.
Supports Hydration
Constipation and dehydration often go hand in hand.
Sea moss naturally contains electrolytes and minerals that support healthy hydration.
Well-hydrated stool is generally softer, easier to move, and more comfortable to eliminate.
Nourishes Your Gut
Sea moss contains soluble fiber that can serve as fuel for beneficial gut bacteria.

A healthy gut microbiome plays an important role in digestion, immune function, and overall wellness.
While sea moss isn't a replacement for a healthy diet, it can be a valuable addition to one.

The Poop Doctor's Take
Sea moss isn't a miracle cure.
But when combined with proper hydration, a mineral-rich diet, healthy movement, stress management, and good bowel habits, it can be one more powerful tool for supporting healthy digestion.
That's exactly how I think about wellness:
But combining simple habits that help your body do what it was designed to do.
If you're looking for an easy daily habit that supports hydration, mineral intake, and digestive health, sea moss is one of my favorite recommendations, and The Vitality Way is the one you'll find in my own refrigerator.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sea Moss Gel
Does sea moss help constipation?
Sea moss may help support healthy bowel movements, especially when constipation is related to dehydration, low mineral intake, or dry, hard stools.
Unlike stimulant laxatives that force the bowels to contract, sea moss works more gently by supporting the digestive system in several ways:
- Its natural gel-like fiber (called mucilage) adds moisture and slipperiness to the digestive tract.
- It contains magnesium and other minerals that support normal muscle and nerve function involved in digestion.
- It may help support hydration, which is essential for soft, easy-to-pass stool.
- Its soluble fiber can nourish beneficial gut bacteria, which play an important role in digestive health.
That said, sea moss isn't a miracle cure for constipation. Chronic constipation can have many underlying causes, including stress, pelvic floor dysfunction, low fiber intake, medications, hormonal changes, or conditions like IBS, and those issues often need to be addressed as well.
How much sea moss gel should I take daily?
Most people do well with 1 to 2 tablespoons per day.
If you've never taken sea moss before, start with 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon daily and gradually work your way up over several days. This gives your digestive system time to adjust.
As with any food or supplement, more isn't always better. Consistency is generally more beneficial than taking large amounts.
Can you take sea moss every day?
Yes. For most healthy adults, sea moss can be enjoyed daily as part of a balanced diet.
Many people notice the greatest benefits when they take it consistently over time rather than only occasionally.
If you have a thyroid condition, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a medical condition that requires dietary restrictions, speak with your healthcare provider before adding sea moss to your routine.
Who should avoid sea moss?
Sea moss is considered safe for most healthy adults, but it may not be appropriate for everyone.
Talk with your healthcare provider before using sea moss if you:
- Have a thyroid disorder, such as hyperthyroidism or certain forms of hypothyroidism.
- Are taking thyroid medication.
- Have been advised to limit iodine intake.
- Have a known allergy to seaweed or marine products.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding and have questions about iodine intake.
- Have advanced kidney disease or other conditions requiring mineral restrictions.
Because sea moss naturally contains iodine, it's best not to consume excessive amounts.
How long does sea moss gel last?
Fresh sea moss gel should always be kept refrigerated.
Most refrigerated sea moss gels stay fresh for about 3 to 4 weeks, although this varies depending on the recipe and ingredients used.
The Vitality Way Sea Moss Gel is made without preservatives, so freshness is one of the reasons we love it. Always follow the expiration date on the jar and use a clean spoon each time to help prevent contamination.
If the gel develops an unusual smell, mold, or changes significantly in color or texture, it's time to discard it.
You can preserve your sea moss gel for up to 3 to 4 months by freezing it in an ice cube tray, or freezing the jar whole!
How can I eat sea moss gel?
One of the best things about sea moss gel is how versatile it is.
You can enjoy it:
- Straight off the spoon
- Mixed into smoothies
- Stirred into yogurt
- Added to oatmeal
- Blended into protein shakes
- Mixed into juices
- Spread on toast
- Added to soups after cooking
- Mixed into homemade salad dressings
- Added to overnight oats
- Stirred into applesauce
- Used in homemade energy bites
The Vitality Way's delicious fruit flavors make it easy enough to enjoy by itself. No smoothie required.
Does sea moss have fiber?
Yes.
Sea moss contains soluble fiber, particularly mucilage, which forms the smooth, gel-like texture that sea moss is known for.
This soluble fiber helps retain water and can support digestive health while also serving as food for beneficial gut bacteria.
Is sea moss good for gut health?
Sea moss may support gut health in several ways.
Its soluble fiber can nourish beneficial bacteria in the gut, while its soothing gel-like texture may help support the protective lining of the digestive tract.
Combined with proper hydration and a healthy diet, sea moss can be a valuable part of an overall gut-friendly lifestyle.
Does sea moss make your poop softer?
Many people find that it does.
Sea moss supports softer stools by helping maintain hydration, providing naturally occurring magnesium, and adding moisture through its gel-like soluble fiber.
For people with dry, hard stools, these combined effects may help bowel movements become easier and more comfortable.
Is sea moss a laxative?
No.
Sea moss is not a stimulant laxative.
Instead of forcing your intestines to contract, it works by supporting your body's normal digestive function through hydration, soluble fiber, and naturally occurring minerals.
Think of it as supporting the environment your digestive system needs to work well, not forcing it to work.
Can sea moss cause diarrhea?
It can, especially if you eat too much when first starting.
Because sea moss contains soluble fiber and naturally occurring minerals, some people experience loose stools or increased bowel movements if they consume large amounts right away.
Starting with a small serving and gradually increasing your intake can help minimize digestive discomfort.
Is sea moss safe for children?
Sea moss is a food, but children have different nutritional needs than adults. We recommend feeding children only 1 teaspoon a day (as opposed to the daily tablespoon recommended for adults).
If you're considering giving sea moss to a child in larger amounts, it's best to discuss it with your pediatrician to ensure it's appropriate for your child's age, diet, and health needs.
Why does The Poop Doctor recommend The Vitality Way Sea Moss?
I've tried a lot of sea moss over the years, and The Vitality Way is the one I recommend because it checks every box that matters.

- Sweetened with local honey instead of refined sugar
